Dieska Ancestral Home at Lehota Dolná
House #482 was built in 1869 by the Dieška family (father/son Stephen & Stephen). It represents historic Slovak architecture of the time. It is the only building in Dolná Lehota that is included on the national list of protected cultural monuments. Address: Dolná Lehota 482, 027 41 Oravský Podzámok, Slovakia
From the book THE MAGIC OF CARVED WOOD - folk architecture of Orava (ČARO KRESANÉHO DREVA - ľudová architektúra Oravy written by P. Čaplovič, published 1977) is an old picture of the home. Note the gate appears to be a modernized design of the 1970's.
A more recent photo of the house in July 2012 taken from Google Street Maps and can be seen HERE in more detail as an interactive street map. Note the gate has been been restored to the original design that existed from before the 1977 picture.
Orava Village Museum in Zuberec at Brestová, Slovakia
The Orava Village Museum is probably the most famous Slovak open-air museum. It is a true example of how the life used to be in a typical Orava village. Some of the timbered cottages located on the site were purchased from the original owners, dismantled and then reassembled on the museum grounds. Other cottages were painstakingly built as exact copies of the original buildings since the originals continue to be used as homes. The Dieška home at Lehota Dolná remains as a current residence; it was blueprinted then duplicated at the Orava Village Museum.
This is the replica of the Dieška home as seen at the Orava Village Museum.
The replica home and the entire Orava Village Museum can be seen HERE as an interactive street map.
